Honest. Moving. Vulnerable. Encouraging. This is a great book from a master therapist. It is among the best contemporary books I have read. It is unique. Coming from a therapist, it is deeply personal. Kelly showed me he is not afraid of showing his vulnerabilities when he is convinced it will move others towards growth. This book caused me to become aware of areas of my interior life that I typically try to avoid, but that I need to face again and again in order to become more fully the person I am meant to be. I was brought to tears. To anger. To newfound awareness. I had to put the book down sometimes because I felt raw and exposed. The book felt like equal parts love letter, autobiography, and therapy work for me. I highly encourage you read it cover to cover, however long it takes you. But beware, you may be reading through your tears.

(I received an advance copy of the book in order to write an honest review for the book’s launch)

Loveable: Embracing What Is Truest About You, So You Can Truly Embrace Your Life audiobook streamming online

I have often felt it difficult to connect my head and my heart. I know how I should feel about myself, but my heart just couldn’t receive. The disconnect was in part because I was blind to how I was trying to be someone I actually wasn’t. Closing off the circuits of genuine lovability. (How can I really love myself if I’m not allowing my true self to show up?) In reading this book, I have (through so many tears) begun the process of rediscovering why I am lovable at my core. Not because I learned any new concepts… to be honest, I didn’t “learn” much. The difference is this book did not feed my brain with new information, it fed my heart with the tenderness it has longed for. A feeling of how I have an inherent value, not because of anything I say or do, but because I was created with a divinely inspired worth and purpose that can never be taken away. This book was filled with impactful moments that I will cherish forever. Those moments in life where I will for the rest of my life remember exactly where I was when it happened… when I would feel a new kind of love for myself for the first time, over and over again. And although I received an advance copy of this book, I cannot stress how much this book has meant to me. Hands down, this will be the book I give out to all my friends this year.

Audiobook Loveable: Embracing What Is Truest About You, So You Can Truly Embrace Your Life by Kelly Flanagan

Like Saint Augustines Confessions or Henri Nouwens Life of the Beloved, Kelly Flanagans Loveable offers the reader a personal invitation: not to simply read the book as something out there, but to embark on a journey inside ones own experience where one can verify for oneself the deep meanings and truths the author offers us from his lived experience. Out of ordinary settings of daily life, Kelly the man, husband, father, counselor and believer holds up to the reader a mirror to look within. In the process of reflective reading, we discover the hidden gifts contained in Loveable: being human is about coming to appreciate myself as loveable and then going beyond myself to love others, making our shared human adventure more loving and joyful.

This book will be enriching for parents, teachers, pastors, counselors and all committed travelers on the road of life! Give yourself the gift of this book; in the process, you will discover again your own worthiness, belonging and purpose. It is a blessing not to be missed!

Audio Loveable: Embracing What Is Truest About You, So You Can Truly Embrace Your Life narrated by Eric Michael Summerer

The author’s has a wonderful blog, and this book is a wonderful extended post and letter of gratitude, love and encouragement to whoever reads it.

This book will not disappoint Kelly’s blog readers and will not disappoint any other person who has started walking this path of living a truer life, a life being ourselves with our gifts and flaws, that most likely will not be extraordinary but will be exclusive, because will be our own. The book tells Kelly’s experiences, his children’s, his wife’s and some of clients’s too, they all show how they have formed who we are, how they show which our believes of life are, and how we can make a healthier choice in each moment, if our intention is to act and behave as our heart tells.
The book doesn’t have a spectacular idea, it is not revealing a mystery, it is not magical, it doesn’t contain a recipe, it is actually super ordinary and real. And that is why this is a wonderful book to read: nothing suggested in this book to live a lovable and truer life is out of reach for any of us. Recognizing what our life has in store for us, and that whatever it is is near and doesn’t need it doesn’t need a magic formula or the ultimate 10 things you must do that will change your life forever, this book actually acknowledges that we are several times at the same place as we have been before, but every time, we have a different sight to relate with life and its situations… this really is critical to avoid frustration and it is a wonderful gift this book gives.

This is a book written with joy and encouragement, a nice book to read for those decided to come out and play, as well as to ring some others’s bells and invite them to come out and play, no matter if we are not good at the game. The book clearly captures that life is about community, belonging, finding who we are and be proud about it, and inviting to make the world a better place just by bringing to it our -exclusive yet very mundane and usually not spectacular- gifts and passion.

Note that the book contains comments about God and Kelly’s faith, which we may not share or feel moved by; however, the encouraging message you obtain from the book is the same whether you share them or not.

I am here to buy my second copy, because I gave away my first one, then I suddenly realised something very important was missing from my house. Dr. Kelly Flanagans voice. His voice has been a constant affirmation to me over the past 5 years through his blog (untangled) and it felt awesome to have all his wisdom in the form of a book. His book is also the first book I write a review about in all those years I have been buying books from amazon. A surberb book, from someone with the heart of a gold.
