Ugh. I couldn’t finish this book. There is nothing wrong with the writing but the plot and the characters are so flawed, so unbelievable. For example, breaking out of maximum security prison is apparently a really common thing where these characters live. I swallowed the first prison break as a necessary, albeit lazy, plotting device but then another character (unrelated to the first) breaks out of another, high security prison. Really??? This is just an example of the implausible plot twists and character development that cripples this book. Add to that cliche characters -control freak husband, victimized heroine and I couldn’t NOT put it down.

A young woman is wrongly accused and tried for the murder of her grandmother and found guilty. She is sent to prison at age 17 where she serves 10 years. While being transported by police the car is involved in an accident. Both guards die and she escapes. She starts a new life as a stripper.
Two mentally unbalanced and highly unlikeable characters are fortunate enough to win the lottery but they don’t want to split the winnings. I found this ridiculous and thus the tale lost a star. Instead, they agree that the one (Jared) marries the stripper(Kelsey) and turns her into the perfect wife. If he is still married to her in two years time and she hasn’t cheated on him, he gets to keep the full amount. If not, the other(Victor) gets to keep the cash.
Victor attempts to seduce Kelsey unsuccessfully so forces himself on her and thus begins the part gripping part of the story.
For a prisoner survivor and stripper Kelsey came across as idiotic and incapable of seeing through her manipulative husband’s ways up to 60% of the story. Added to this the successful escape of not one but two prisoners made the story implausible and the twist when it came, lost the story a further half star. 3 and a half stars.

This is my first time reading this author, and what a read it was! I finished it in record time. The story flowed and kept me turning the pages with anticipation of what was to come. A great thriller. I will look for more of her books.
