I don\’t usually review books but I just had to for this one! The content was interesting, hilarious, terrifying and so SO well researched! The author is so knowledgeable about this period, I have been a fan of her website (which I highly suggest you visit) for a long time, so I knew the book would be good and I was not disappointed! I would highly recommend this to any history lover! Unlike other books about life in mideval times that drone on and on and on, making them very easy to fall asleep to, this book was wonderful and kept my interest from beginning to end, the narrator was fantastic as well!!!!! 9 people found this helpful

I loved the book up to the chapter over transgender individuals. Considering how respectful and thoughtful the chapter over intersex people was, you wouldn\’t expect an entire other chapter calling a trans man a woman repeatedly and not once giving his story the depth and complexity of the other stories she tells. It would have been better to not include a trans man in a book about women if the proper context wasn\’t going to be placed around him. Deeply disrespectful, sadly such a good book otherwise. 3 people found this helpful
