I don’t often keep up with reviews on books. My bad, I know. But I had to write a review on this one as soon as I finished it. I guess I sort of felt an affinity with the main character, who spent her entire life trying to please certain members of her family, but always falling short. The story brought tears to my eyes several times, because I could feel the complete desolation of that life. How sometimes, you just can’t do anything to please those who should love you. It was heartbreaking at times, but the heroine rose above it all, and found pure joy in her life. Also, I used to raise hedgehogs when my kids were young, and it brought back all those fun times for me.

This was my first book by this author and I wasn’t too impressed. The writing was very repetitive and the characterization, rather unrealistic. The main character was naive and pathetic in her “goodness” and many of the characters seemed one dimensional, e.g., the main character’s mother. After struggling to stay interested through the first half, the story picked up a little but the writing trend continued. I am not likely to read another novel by this author. Maybe a younger reader – early teens – would be better able to tolerate the writer’s ‘style’.

Audiobook Finding Love at Hedgehog Hollow by Jessica Redland
I have found a new author. I love books that are real and authentic and not just a rehash of books written by other authors. Ms Redland writes remarkable books, I read this one and immediately read the second one as well. This one caught my attention by the second page and didn’t let go. I don’t often read first person books because I identify too closely with the heroine and sometimes they aren’t too bright! But you can’t go wrong with this set and I can’t wait for number 3.

Finding Love at Hedgehog Hollow was a huge surprise. Hedgehog Hollow sounds like something from the land of make-believe,but nothing could be further from the truth. The story that takes place in Hedgehog Hollow is warm and filled with love, heartbreak, and characters who could be your neighbor or best friend. They are so well fleshed out! The story is full of lifes complexities. It is well worth reading and highly recommended.

Great romance and story of a young woman overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Samantha is treated so badly by so many, including her mother, its hard to imagine someone coming out the other side of that more confident and more whole. I knew nothing about hedgehogs to start the book, and know not much more now. But the story was an absorbing one, and I highly recommend it.
