The Dragon in the Library (Kit the Wizard #1) audiobook free

I found this book while browsing in my library and I am so glad I did. It’s such a fun story about Kit and her two friends, a part-dragon, a whole and very big dragon, a librarian and a very bad guy.

It’s hard to exactly pinpoint what makes this story so much fun – it’s partly the humor and the distinct voices of each of the characters, and partly the well written story, and partly the magical elements. The author weaves these elements together to create a very fun story to read. I laughed a lot and I even laughed at the acknowledgements page – the author kept up the great writing right to the very last word.

I also loved the magic spells which are made up from real words in languages other than English. I first noticed this when I read a line and thought: Oh, this is Welsh! And when I went back and checked it out all the spell lines were from different languages and that gives a wonderful fun puzzle for readers to suss out.

My only issue with the story really is that the bad guy is a bit of a cartoon character bad guy rather than a real person and I think that made him a bit stupid and easier to beat. In contrast, the other characters were well rounded and more interesting.

And I would have liked a bit more Dogon in the middle of the story – he was a great character and gave the story a lot of warmth.

But this is such a good book that tiny issues can’t affect the star rating. Definitely a five starrer. And thank you to my library (and libraries everywhere) for carrying great titles like this one. What would we do without them?

Highly recommended.

The Dragon in the Library story is so creative, and you dont know how it will proceed. Whats fun about this book is that it encourages younger readers to read more and makes them passionate about books. The author writes the story in such a charming manner that it is hard to put down. I also enjoyed the references she makes to other folklores like Baba Yaga. Moreover, she also provides an excellent summary of the various book genres that younger readers can review to get into the habit of reading.

Similarly, the author wrote the characters nicely. The main characters, Josh, Alita, and Kit, are fun and dynamic. Even Hadrian Salt is enjoyable as the villain, and it was interesting to see how he went about with his plans. Faith is fun as the librarian who trains and guides them. I also loved Dogon, the cute, lovable, half dog, half-dragon. However, I wish we had seen more of Josh and Alita, as the story primarily focused on Kit.

The author also places the story nicely as we know more about the Wizards Council and the different types of Magic. Some of the memorable moments were when Kit stumbles upon the dragon and attempt to stops Salt by breaking into his office. There are enough Magic and adventure elements in the story to keep you entertained. The book also sets the pace for additional books in the series in a fluid manner. Also, the illustrations by Davide Ortu add brilliantly to the story and give the reader an excellent, whimsical feel.

Overall, The Dragon in the Library is a beautiful start to the Kit the Wizard, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Audiobook The Dragon in the Library (Kit the Wizard #1) by Louie Stowell

Kit doesn’t like to read. She can’t sit still. She would much rather be climbing trees or playing with matches or other dangerous things. Her friends, Alita and Josh, convince her to visit the library with them. Kit discovers magical properties within the books that propel her and her friends into a wizarding adventure.

I loved this book from start to finish! The characters, the plot, the world-building, the magic; everything is wonderful!

I liked that the plot is simple and straightforward, but has a few little surprises that keep the story fresh and exciting. The writing style is absolutely hilarious! There are so many cute bits of dialogue and funny scenes that had me laughing.

I loved Kit’s character! She is bold and reckless and wild. She dares to say the things that other people only think. She has some excellent character development. I loved how she stumbles into awful mistakes, and feels so badly over it, but she is ready to dare anything to set things right again.

Alita and Josh are bookish and smart. I don’t know why those three are friends, but their dynamic is so great. I would love an origin story of how three completely different kids ended up as friends.

I think Josh is probably my favorite character, because he is very meticulous and curious. He is always asking questions, and writing things down in long lists in his notebook. He believes that it is important to have a large vocabulary. What a brain! I adore him.

The black and white illustrations are lovely. Every few pages there are some cute illustrations that really draw the reader into the story and help you to visualize everything you are reading.

I can’t quite put my finger on why this book is so charming. Every chapter is a delight! I finished the entire book in one day. I could not stop reading. It refreshed my mind. It gave me warm fuzzies in my heart. It made me happy in a deep-down joyful, silly, childish, carefree way.
This book made me believe in magic!

Audio The Dragon in the Library (Kit the Wizard #1) narrated by Rosie Jones

I read The Dragon In The Library by Louie Stowell with my kids and we really enjoyed it! The 8 year old read chapters out loud, and the 12 year old listened to the opening few and said hed never want to end up in a space book about meteors (youll have to read it to know what Im referring to)!

Its a rip roaring MG adventure with a huge plot twist, a horrid villain, and characters that are so believable and loveable.
Kit, the main character, breaks stereotypes, shes cool, sassy and her voice is SO good. She thinks libraries and books are boring and boy does she learn theyre not! This story is full of adventure and mayhem and dialogue thatll make you chuckle. Honestly, EVERY school and public library should have this book. In fact, I think every middle grader should! Itll help them see books as portals to new worlds – which of course they are! .

I loved the mention of various books and fairytales such as Baba Yagas, The House With Chicken Legs and the fact that the library was about to be closed down. The protests are something we can all relate to. My children and I recited some of the spells, hoping we could also hear the quiet (swipe to see pics of these scenes)! .

Great friends, a horrible villain, a trusted guardian and a cute dragon-dog – what more could you want in a story?

We cant wait for book two!!

The Dragon in the Library is just as good as it sounds and I devoured it in one sitting. It has memorable, diverse characters, a strong voice and a message about the power of reading and libraries.

The writing in this book is brilliant! It’s funny, fast-paced and quirky, with a plot that kept my interest and took me by surprise. It’s perfect for the target audience of 5 to 8 year olds but an engaging read for all.

Davide Ortu’s illustrations are gorgeous too. The characters are distinctive and expressive and the illustrations bring the vividly described settings to life.

I also loved the characters. Kit is a brilliant protagonist who has agency, makes mistakes and grows through the book. She makes a great team with her friends, who are also well-developed and interesting in their own right. My favourite character is Faith. It’s so refreshing to have a fleshed-out, likeable adult character in a book for this age range. She’s smart, cool and has a definite Giles-from-Buffy vibe.

It’s great that this book leaves readers with such positive messages too: libraries and reading are vital and it’s up to individuals to make a difference.

I can’t wait for the next instalment in this series and will read anything Louie writes.
