Two things about this story: First, the story was classic \”damsel in distress\” and could have been cute but the author just had to wander into crude territory. The story is not enhanced by the occasional four letter word and in most instances it diminishes the story not the least of which it doesn\’t really belong in a Regency era story. Second, the narrator does a good job of voicing the story and different part but she speaks so slowly that the story is much better told at 1.25X than the normal pace. There were times when the dragging on of the sentences was painful. Otherwise, a cute story for quick read if you can ignore the crudeness.

Best $3.50 I have spent. This well written short story keeps your interest throughout. The mystery of Hippolyta Royle\’s kidnapping is not revealed until the end of the book. Her muddy , smelly and tattered condition when she stops Mathew\’s carriage causes him to believe she is a woman who preys on men and when she tells him she is an heiress he bursts out laughing. When he agrees to take her to the next Inn their adventures begin. Ashford McNab\’s did a decent job as narrator.

Audiobook Once upon a Moonlit Night by Elizabeth Hoyt

The main thing I love about novellas is that there’s really no time or space in the book for an over-abundance of angst. I hate angst when it’s page after page, like authors write in 300 and 400 page books, and nothing else; no mystery, no murder, no suspense, no nothing except angst, angst and more angst, until you want to scream. I absolutely loved this novella, every single word. I loved how absolutely filthy and gross and stinky Hippolyta was. How Matthew mistook her for a maid, actress or whore. She was a great heroine and he was an awesome hero. I liked the secondary characters, too: Josiah, Charlie, Lady Whimple, Sir George, Lord D’Arque, AND Tommy, the pet mongoose. I’ve read 11 of Elizabeth Hoyt’s books but stopped after book 6 of The Maiden Lane series because the Ghost of St. Giles disappeared. Then the books became like every other romance out there. I will read (maybe) Duke of Pleasure, due out on November 29, because the Ghost is back. Love that Ghost. There wasn’t any sexual attraction, until Hippolyta took a bath, which was understandable, and then there was. LOL.. There were also 3 explicit sex scenes. This is the most erotic novella/book I’ve ever read by Ms. Hoyt. Also, the first time I ever remember reading the word p**sy used by her. That’s a disgusting word, to me. So, I’ll have to find out if that word is used in her new book and if it is I won’t be reading it. This story lost a star because of that word. Sorry, that\’s just the way I feel. There was a little swearing and the F-bomb was released 1 time. As to the narrator: Ashford McNab is one of the best female narrators out there. Her men sound like men, especially the heroes with their sexy as hell voices. And she reads with great emotion.

This was a well written short story. It pulls you right in from the beginning. Well worth the credit.

This was alright for a short story but I remembered why I prefer Loretta Chase to Elizabeth Hoyt. Loretta Chase writes with so much more class and less crassness. I believe we like to think of Dukes and Duchesses with an ethereal quality. Less four letter words, I much prefer \”breasts\” to \”tits\”. And Ashford McNab MUST be listened to at 1.25 speed….I won\’t be purchasing another by Hoyt/McNab. Serves me right by not listening to the sample first.
