The Sexy One by Lauren Blakely is full of sexy times and is all the more alluring since it is a “forbidden” love tale! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book by LB that I haven’t enjoyed.
Simon is a single 30 something father, smart businessman, sexy as sin, and is staggered by his adorable daughter’s nanny, not only by her beauty but by her personality and the way she is so great with little Hayden. It hit me a few chapters in that he was actually in Mister O, also by LB! Anyway, Abby is a 26 year old girl loving life and has the hots for her employer. Not only is he hot but he makes her melt by how loving a father he is, not to mention the two have developed a friendship and have great discussions from nature to food and languages and so on. It becomes clear to her over time that Simon is feeling what she’s feeling in the I-gotta-have-you-now-department and vice verse happens for him. The question is, once that line is crossed is there any going back? I like that the chapters were a mixture of Abby telling the story and then Simon, gave a chance to hear the inner thoughts of both characters and to understand where each is coming from. I liked how Harper and Nick from Mister O had a part in The Sexy One! The kitchen scene and Simons bedroom scene were amazing! After things heat up between Simon and Abby, and the throes of passion give way to the morning light, there is the issue of employer/employee/boyfriend/girlfriend. I won’t give it all away! I loved Simon and Abby’s story. They were each remarkable people. People I’d want for friends or coworkers. I’ll admit it, I want Simon for MY boyfriend, darling little girl and all. Watching Simon play with Hayden (the five-year-old) was beyond sweet. He’s the daddy every child needs, and it’s no wonder Abby was already in love with him, whether she’d admit it or not. Yes, lust or at least serious attraction first, because Simon was beyond gorgeous. The entire package. The body and the heart. We knew exactly how Simon would treat Abby, and watching their love story develop and blossom was a real treat.
I’ll never look at nature documentaries the same way. I’ll never look at a French braid the same way. I may still be in love with Simon after five more book boyfriends. And still think Abby kills it as a language teacher, Nanny of the Year award, and best stepmother (that term just doesn’t apply here though) ever. I loved to hate Simon’s ex-wife. What a bitch! I loved how Simon interacted with her and how, when she thought she had all the ammunition, Simon couldn’t help but smile out of bone-deep happiness, and his happiness got the ex square in the chest, far better than if he’d fought back. This story didn’t have the razzle-dazzle that some of Blakely’s books did, but it’s not fair to compare this A+ title with those of hers that knocked it well over the park fence (Like Mr. O, which earned an A++), as all by itself, this stand-alone but wonderfully connected full-length contemporary romantic comedy absolutely shines.

“He’s sweet, kind, funny, and good. So damn good. And, for a bonus prize, add in that he’s an amazing father. That’s some sexy Kryptonite right there.”
FINAL DECISION: A nice story that is lacking a bit in comparison to the other books in this series. The central conflict seemed not enough to keep these two apart and the emotional depth of this story was not what I would expect.
THE STORY: Abby is the nanny of a five year old girl. The father, Simon Travers is known as a “hot single dad”. He is devoted to his daughter. The problem is that Abby has been attracted to Simon for months. What she doesn’t know is that Simon has been resisting his own attraction to Abby. He fears that wanting the nanny is just too stereotypical and he doesn’t want to lose Abby who has been a blessing for him and his daughter.
OPINION: This was an enjoyable story but lacked the vibrancy of most of Lauren Blakely’s books. The central conflict of this book is about how Simon doesn’t want to be a cliche of single dad and the nanny. While an interesting idea, that conflict didn’t feel deep enough to keep these two apart.
Because I didn’t think the central conflict was deep enough, I also didn’t feel that the forces keeping these two apart didn’t feel important enough to justify the drama around it. These characters were so likeable and thus there wasn’t the depth to the story that I would expect — even though the story was nice enough.
I enjoyed these two together, but they were just a little too perfect and sweet for my tastes.
WORTH MENTIONING: This book is told in alternating first person.
CONNECTED BOOKS: THE SEXY ONE is book 4 in the Holiday/Hammer books which are connected but can be read as a standalone. This book is a direct spinoff of MISTER O.
STAR RATING: I give this book 3 stars.

I just love a good falling for the nanny story! Simon Travers is a divorced dad of the cutest little girl, Hayden. He is also the fantasy of every other nanny and they’ve nicknamed him “The Sexy One”….tall, gorgeous and so sexy! He is also sweet, kind, smart, funny and the best dad ever! That is why Abby Becker has fallen for him. Problem though is that she needs this job so she keeps her longing to herself.
I really loved the conversations Abby and Simon had. It was fun, silly and just so sexy at times. I loved how both of these characters longed for the other but knew they shouldn’t because they didn’t want to lose what they had. But the minute they decided to forge ahead….BOOM! These two exploded. I loved them together. They were both fun and quirky at the same time. Add Hayden into the mix and it just worked. Simon’s ex-wife, Miriam added a little fun into the mix. Loved the scene where Abby first met her! Priceless.
Overall I really enjoyed this story and the characters. Great read and I highly recommend it!

I loved this!!
Simon is gorgeous falls for Abby who’s his daughters nanny but it’s a romantic lovely book
His wee daughter Hayden is absolutely adorable loves everything.. life in general it’s a great read!!
