The Eon Warriors series by Anna takes place in a future or alternate Earth where humankind has attained space travel and made contact with alien species. One of said alien species, called the Kantos and resembling giant bugs, has plans to invade Earth, use up its resources and eat all humans. In order to fight the bugs, humankind attempts to form an alliance with a powerful alien race called the Eon, who want nothing to do with humans after a disastrous previous encounter. The human military comes up with a wacky plan to get the attention of the Eon where they: A – kidnap a decorated military leader, B – Steal sacred jewels in the alien planets, and C – Hijack an important military vessel. This three part strategy is to be carried out by three sisters who are blackmailed into cooperating. Books 1 and 2 in the series had the two military trained older sisters carrying out parts A and B of the plan, and ending up mated to aliens. They are both action packed and entertaining stories. However, I enjoyed this installment more.

Heart of Eon is the story of younger sister, Wren, who is a computer genius and not a soldier. She is sent to hijack an important military ship, commanded by Malax Dann-Jad. Malax is obviously not too thrilled with his cyber hijacker and proceeds to find her. Once he manages to do that, he finds that his troubles are only beginning. The pair have good chemistry and the characters are likable, as are most of Anna Hackett’s characters throughout her many series. The reason I liked this book more than 1 and 2 is that Wren is normal, or as normal as a cyber genius can be. She is not a super soldier, she is not wonder woman, and she is not trying to out warrior a race that is supposedly made up of stronger warriors than humans (otherwise what would be the point in the wacky shenanigans contrived by the human military in order to get their alliance.) Wren is a pretty, curvy girl, who is smart, yet knows her limits for the most part. This leads to her being actually believable. She has her own strengths, which are very different from Malax’s and that is ok. That is actually great, because it works beautifully. I liked her character so much better than her sisters, and that made me enjoy the story more.
The bottom line is that Anna Hackett is a very entertaining author, who knows how to write action packed science fiction romance. Fans of the series will like the book. People new to the series should probably start with book 1, but this book explains enough that it might be able to stand on its own. I hope Anna Hackett writes a few more books with heroines like this one, although it seems we are back to the soldier girls for the next one.

Was really looking forward to Wren’s story, and while it didn’t wow any kind of way, it was an easy, enjoyable read. Wren was smart, curvy and resourceful. Malax, I’m not sure about. He’s likable and sexy, but not a hero I was swooning over. Lots of action in the story, sometimes a little too much for me. I kept thinking, could someone guard the helion core, please! Good grief. Less action and more intetaction would’ve been nice, like seeing more of Wren interacting with the crew and Sassy. Loved Sassy! Best part of the story. Overall, a nice tie up of Wren back with her sisters and their warriors. This also sets up the next Eon warrior and his Earth woman. The last few chapters were the most enjoyable for me.

Audiobook Heart Of Eon by Anna Hackett

Although I have been rather critical of the first two installments of the Eon Warriors for various reasons, amongst them the close resemblance of the set-up and backstory to that of Anna Carvens Dark Planet Warriors and the repetetiveness with regard to some plot elements (particularly in book 2, Touch of Eon), I still felt a strong compulsion to get my hands on this story. Either because I am the worlds worst masochist or maybe because of Anna Hacketts clever strategy of ensuring reader loyalty: though each book ends with a HEA for the couple in love, the two main protagonists for the next book and hints about the nature of their story are set up at the same time which makes it very difficult to resist them.

This was particularly the case with Wren, who is the youngest of the Traynor sisters and nothing like her two older siblings. She is not athletic and even less a soldier, but a computer geek with some impressive hacking skills. Like her sister Lara she gets conned by her government into trying to rescue their oldest sister Eve by capturing an Eon warship and delivering it to the Space Corps. She manages to get aboard an Eon warship and get a measure of control over it, much to the consternation of the commander of said warship, Malax Dann-Jad. He of course tries to wrest control back, but Wren manages to elude him (which only makes him more determined to capture her), and they begin an exciting game of cat and mouse

I really liked that the dynamic between this couple was a bit different, that their sparring took place mostly on the intellectual level, by trying to outwit each other. They also had some of the best banter, with Wren being somewhat unfiltered in her observations about the world in general, the enumeration of a certain Eon warriors physical attributes and her personal issues and feelings.

There is also a new twist with the Helians and plenty of action and fights, as we have come to expect. This definitively is my favorite installment so far, also because it managed to break the mold of what was threatening to become a too formulaic set-up, so 4 stars from me. In that vein I also hope that in the future we will maybe also get a story between an Eon female and a Terran male, though its not going to be the next one, Kiss of Eon.

Audio Heart Of Eon narrated by Vivienne Leheny

I was gifted this ARC for my honest opinion but I loved this so much that I bought this book on release day (as usual) but this time I had to read it again cuz I enjoyed it so hard! I thoroughly enjoyed book one and two in this series but this is my favorite. Wren was tasked with hijacking the Eon’s newest battleship and making it rendezvous with Earth’s fleet to go after the Kantos together. What ensues is a romp and a half. It’s like a week of foreplay between Wren and War Commander (or as Wren refers to him WC) Malax Dann-Jad. She refuses to believe that her sisters have mated two Eon Warriors and that Earth has an alliance with Eon now. There is tons of action, fighting with Kantos’, getting interrupted when things are getting interesting, more fighting and finally getting reunited with her sisters. Ahhh! SO enjoyable! I’m glad that this isn’t the end of the series, we get to spend more time with these fascinating characters! Enjoy!
