Michael Connelly has created many superb characters in the past but so far the defense attorney Mickey Haller is the best the author has created over the years. Mickey is the kind of man who keeps on looking for troubles or we can say serious cases which not only give him fame but also the kind of money that he needs. Murder cases are always his first choice but this time he is seen busy in some other type of cases. It is a time of economic decline in the region and many people are finding it difficult to keep the keys of their houses in their hands. Those who have borrowed money from the banks are unable to pay the installments that’s why the bank is taking over their houses.
THE FIFTH WITNESS
Lisa Trammel is one of the defaulters who has not been able to return the money that she had borrowed from the bank. When the bank came for her house she hired Mickey as the solution to the problem. Mickey was able to save her house from the bank temporarily but then another trouble started of nowhere. Mickey’s client i.e Lisa started a protest against the bank and this made the CEO very angry.
Then one day the CEO was found dead in the parking of the bank and Lisa was considered to be the culprit. Peter Giles narrates how Mickey suddenly gets into gear because he happens to be an expert in murder cases. This case still appeared to be different than the cases present in The Law of Innocence and The Burning Room because Mickey had to go beyond his limits.
