Audiobook Mr Hire’s Engagement by Georges Simenon
As always, the writing of Georges Simenon is superb, but the theme of the novel is deeply depressing. For Mr Hire, I felt only pity. Simenon’s treatment of the rest of the characters is almost brutally naturalistic. As a commentary on Parisians of the time, it verges on satire. I have so much praise for the writing, it is a shame I didn’t enjoy the book.

Audio Mr Hire’s Engagement narrated by Andrew Wincott
I have read all the Simenon novels that have been translated in English and published in recent years. He was a great writer. I don’t understand why Penguin is taking so long to publish more of Simenon novels. They are coming out very slowly.
